Birkebeiner Classic XC Ski Race postponed
Hello all cross-country skiers,
The Birkebeiner Classic, scheduled for the 4th July, is postponed as there is not enough snow to set the tracks and run the race. It is too uncertain to wait until Friday’s predicted snowfalls to make a decision, so we are planning to hold the Birkebeiner Classic on Sunday 11th July instead. So get those skinny skis ready and waxed and head to the Nordic Bowl for a 10:30 am start.
Registration is online-only — <https://alpinetiming.com.au/rg221>. Entry can be done right up to start time.
On arrival at the Nordic Bowl check-in via the QR code on the race hut, collect bibs in the Nordic Bowl and be self-sufficient with your food and drinks. Be Covid safe, maintain social distancing and wear a mask if needed.
Hope to see you all there.
Ann Bellingham

Birkie Junior Report
On the local front, a group of local juniors (The Birkie Junior Ski Team!) has been meeting each Monday after school for some roller skiing skills and agility sessions. This group has been organised by Paul Gray, Tim Retchford and Kate Duggan along with some assistance from other parents.
The latest session saw 21 keen juniors turn up. A big thank you to Mount Beauty Secondary College for their assistance with boots and poles and to Paul, Tim and Kate for creating this great pre-season opportunity for these juniors. Also, to Esther Bottomly and Nic Blackwell who will be doing some coaching with this group. Our club has agreed to buy extra roller skis and equipment that is needed with money raised with BBQ fundraising at Vic Juniors and donated funds allocated for our junior program. Mt. Stirling Nordic Ski Hire & Ski School – instructors needed
Good afternoon Ronice
My name is Craig Jones, director of Stirling Experience Pty Ltd, commercial operators of the Mt. Stirling Nordic Ski Hire and Ski School.
I am searching for Nordic Ski School Instructors for the upcoming ski season.
Our Ski School would normally employ 5 qualified (APSI Level 2 equivalent) international Cross Country Instructors through our association with OÜ Suusakool, an Estonian Nordic Ski School operated by one of our former Staff Members and Estonian Nordic Ski Coach Vahur Teppan. Our association extends back for around 10 years and now with the onset of the Covid-19 Pandemic, we are unable to bring staff from Estonia to work for us this season and we are experiencing difficulty locating suitably qualified local Nordic Instructors.
The Birkebeiner Nordic Ski Club has a reputation as one of the leading Clubs within our sport, operating training squads and organising cross country events and competitions including the Kangaroo Hoppet, our country’s premier cross country ski event and one in which my Estonian crew has really enjoyed competing during past seasons. My hope is that within the membership of your club and their contacts with the cross country skier community, you may be able to assist Stirling Experience to advertise our 2021 seasonal full-time job opportunities for nordic instructors within our ski school and assist us to build a competent and fun-filled instructor team for this season.
Stirling Experience employs our instructors at a pay rate of $225.00 per day, we supply a uniform and all ski equipment. Staff accommodation and daily mountain transport is available on our farm at the base of the mountain. Our core season commences with the second term school holidays and continues through to early September. Full-time staff can expect to work at least five days per week and a ski school familiarisation and training program will be conducted by Kati Tammjarv at the season commencement.
Complete details are available on our web site at www.stirlingexperience.com.au/our-mountain/employment
Any assistance that the Birkebeiner Nordic Ski Club might be able to offer to locate suitable candidates would be much appreciated.
Kind Regards
Craig Jones
