  • Skate Gunda SvAvailable free to club members only.
  • Tom Smith, our visiting USA coach, will be conducting the sessions.
  • Sun 3rd August – 1:30-3:00pm in intermediate Skate Technique.
  • Sat 16th August – 2:00-3:30pm in intermediate Skate Technique.
  • Note: Beginner instruction is offered when the Junior Joey Program is being conducted.
  • You must book your place. Bookings can be made by email to <gargan@internode.on.net> or Mobile or SMS: 0409 493 202.
  • Limit of 8 places allocated on a first in first served basis.
  • Meet Tom at the Race Hut in the Nordic Bowl a few minutes before the start time.

Volunteer Workforce needed for 2014 Hoppet

Here is your opportunity to make a contribution to this great event on Wednesday 20st, Friday 22rd and on the day of the event Saturday 23th August. Or if you know someone that may be interested in helping please forward this message to them.

Volunteers have played an integral role in the success of this event since its inception in 1991.  2014 is Hoppet #24. Please read through the below list of jobs and if you are able to volunteer some time for any of these jobs (or feel you need some more information before committing) please contact Ian Franzke (Volunteer Coordinator – Kangaroo Hoppet Race Committee) via email hoppet_volunteers@outlook.com.

Note: Help with Transport and Resort Entry for Wednesday or Friday is available on request. Volunteers will be provided with more information about their specific job.

Club S & R Group – recent searches

The club’s Search & Rescue Group was formed in 1982 through the initiative of  life member Bruce Vine. Up until August 2010 it had been involved in 62 call-outs. Click [HERE] for more information.

Recently the group was called out twice to assist the Police in the search for lost  skiers and snowboarders on Mount Bogong. For details of searches follow the links below.

Club members involved in the two searches at various times were: Ian Franzke (group co-ordinator), Bob Flower, David Panozzo, Rob Boland, Jarrod Paine, Marty Erickson, Roger Blackwell, Jeremy Rosewarne, Ian Arbuckle, Matt O’Keefe, Blair Hume and Alan Hodgson. Jim Gargan (Field Officer) and Bill Little (Police Liaison Officer) were involved in Control Centre activities in Mount Beauty. Thanks to all involved.

Junior Joeys & Adult Instruction

Junior Joey’s Program — Sunday 13 July at Falls Creek 

Change of time for Junior Joey#1. Due to the Inter club relays, the Junior Joey event this Sunday will now start at 12noon in the Nordic Bowl (not 11am as previously advertised) for an hour of fun activities and games. It might be a good idea to feed your children beforehand. Please meet at the Birkebeiner Club banner in the Bowl.

High Plains Tour (Sat) & Vic Interclub Relays (Sun) – Falls Ck

Sat 12 July — Snow, Trek & Travel High Plains Tour (Falls Creek)

    • Enter at Windy Corner Day Shelter (9-10am)
    • 11am start in the Falls Creek Nordic Bowl
    • Distances of 2.5km, 5km and 10km
    • Junior, Open and Master age groups
    • Technique: Freestyle (skate or classic)
    • It’s one of the 8 Vic Ski Chase races where you can earn individual points over the season

Sun 13 July — YMCA Howmans Gap Victorian Interclub Relays (Falls Creek)

    • Enter at Windy Corner Day Shelter (9-10am)
    • 11am start in the Falls Creek Nordic Bowl
    • Distances of 2.5km & 5km
    • Junior, Open and Master age groups
    • Three person team (Technique — one classic & 2 freestyle skiers)
    • Schools teams will be recognised as participating for their school
