  1. Junior Birkie & Junior Joey Programs start this Sunday 1st July. Birkie Racers 10:15 am (C), Birkie Juniors 10:15 am (C), Joey Gliders 11 am (C) & Junior Joeys 11 am (C) — Meet at the Nordic Bowl.   2. Registrations for the Junior Birkie Camp have closed. 30 juniors have registered.
  3. Mid season dinner at Roi’s Restaurant – Tawonga — Thursday 19th July 6:30 pm for a 7:00 pm meal. Meal is part subsidised by the club. Please confirm your attendance and any dietary requirements by Tuesday 10th July to Michelle Forrer: Emailmishforrer@gmail.com> or Mobile: 0417 206 672.

If they are not claimed within two weeks they will be given to a worthy junior member.

2018 Junior Joey & Junior Birkie Program

Again junior races will be held throughout the season called the 2018 ‘Snow, Trek & Travel Mini Series’ at Falls Creek starting in the Nordic Bowl.  These comprise low key races over distances of 0.5, 1.5 & 2.5km using both the classical (C) and skating (F) styles. These are ideal introductory races for Junior Joeys and Junior Birkies.

2018 Birkie Junior 2 Day Development Camp Applications – now open

Skate_poles_kidsThe 2018 Birkie Junior 2 Day Development Camp Applications are now open. The two day camp will be held on Saturday 14th to Sunday 15th July 2018 using the Outdoor School – Bogong Village for accommodation and skiing at Falls Creek. The camp is open to students in years 5 to 8. Applications close Saturday 30 June 2018.

Also we aware of  Junior Joey & Junior Birkie activities throughout the season by visiting Programs > Junior Joeys & Programs > Birkie Juniors on the Club’s website to view the seasons programs including a series of introductory fun races called the Snow, Trek & Travel Mini Series. All activities are at Falls Creek.

Athlete Overseas Reports

A number of Birkebeiners were selected in national teams to compete overseas in 2017/18.

The club provided some financial assistance to each athlete and in return they are required to submit a report for publication on returning to Australia. Reports can be viewed by clicking the links below.

REMINDER: Annual General Meeting – THIS TUESDAY 15th May 2018

The Club’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) will be held this Tuesday 15th May starting at 7:30pm in the auditorium next to the Mount Beauty Visitor Information Centre.

Meeting reports — Reports on the past years activities come from the following: President, Treasurer and Sub-committees: race, junior, clubhouse and search & rescue.

Meeting elections — Office bearers (President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer) will be elected. A number (to be decided at the AGM) of ordinary committee member positions will also be elected usually with designated portfolios. These can include, for example, social secretary, membership secretary, Bulletin editor, website administrator, volunteer co-ordinator and sub-committee convenors (Race, Junior, S&R and Clubhouse). Some of these roles would be volunteer non-committee positions.

If you are interested in an executive position or ordinary committee role please notify Ronice Goebel (Acting Secretary). For a Nomination Form click [HERE]. The Form is in Word format so it can be downloaded, filled in on the computer and emailed to ronice.goebel@gmail.com by 5pm tomorrow (Monday 14th May). Alternatively a form can be downloaded, printed off, filled in and mailed to Birkebeiner Nordic Ski Club, PO Box 192, Mount Beauty 3699. Forms can also be handed in at the AGM. The club also has a number of sub-committees i.e. race, junior, clubhouse and search & rescue. If you would like to assist on one of these please indicate your interest either on the form or at the AGM.

Proxy voting: A member may appoint another member as his or her proxy to vote and speak on his or her behalf at the AGM. This must be in writing and signed by the member who is appointing the proxy. Get them to hand it in at the AGM.

A great supper will be served following the meeting with lots of socialising included.

The club relies on volunteers so please have a think about how you can contribute to this great club in 2018/19.

Birkebeiner Nordic Ski Club – Junior Program Director 

 The Birkebeiner Committee would like to appoint a Junior Program Director for this autumn and winter. See below for a Position Description.

Position Description

  • Plan and organise pre-season (Term 2) weekend program
  • Liaise with Mount Beauty SC staff to assist Autumn training program (before and after school sessions)
  • Plan and organise volunteers for Junior Program (Joeys, Gliders, and Junior Birkies) including the new ‘Possum’ program pilot.
  • Assist in the delivery of winter junior program where possible on designated weekend day.
  • Assist Birkie Junior Development Camp co-ordinators
  • Provide race support to Birkie juniors at the Victorian Junior Champs
  • Manage junior registration and medical forms
  • Manage WWCC records, ensure Codes of Conduct are available and signed by coaches.
  • Car pooling options developed
  • Investigate grant opportunities to subsidise race costs to Birkie juniors attending Junior Nationals in 2018 at Perisher, NSW.
  • Needs to be a member of Birkebeiner Nordic Ski Club
  • Reimbursement of expenses to be negotiated.

Level One Coach Course

Hi Everyone,

The following course info points out you can do this for “your own personal knowledge” if you are just seeking to help out juniors or your club (at a reduced rate). If you are an older junior skier you may also be interested.

Level 1 XC Coach Course – Dryland/Theory

REGISTER 

A Level 1 XC Coach Course will be held in Wangaratta on May 12/13. This course covers training principles and dryland training, and will be presented by 2016 Winter Youth Olympic Coach Alasdair Tutt and current AUSXC Head Coach Valerio Leccardi.

The course will be delivered through presentations, group activities and practical demonstrations. Workshop topics include: Conditioning for XC skiing; Program Planning; Mental Training; Competition Preparation; Sports Nutrition; Age Appropriate Training Activities. Practical sessions include: strength training, hill bounding and rollerskiing.

The course venue will be confirmed soon. The cost of the course is $275 (incl. GST), the preliminary course times are as follows:
9:30am – 5:00pm Saturday May 12
9:00am – 4:00pm Sunday May 13

For participants who are attending the course for their own knowledge, and who will not require to have either practical or theory components assessed following the course, the cost is $165 (incl.GST). A special group rate has been arranged for volunteers with the Wangaratta Junior Training Group – these volunteers should contact Peter Dewez for details.

Please note participants should supply their own hill bounding poles and rollerski equipment if they have them. If not, some equipment may be possible to borrow from the SSAXC DiscoverXC Roll With It equipment pool.

Participants are expected to complete the Australian Sports Commission’s online Community Coaching General Principles, prior to attending the course. Once completed a copy of the certificate should be emailed to the SSAXC Program Director
